Clubs & Activities

DHS Debate Team meets several days/week and prepares, learns and practices HS Debate techniques and skills and competes in regional, state and national Debate competitions both in-person and virtually. Debate is one of the most active and successful clubs at DHS.

Join the Drama Club to be a part of the tech team (lighting, costumes, set, backstage help) or to act up on the stage. We produce 3 shows each year. The Fall show is already in rehearsal. Check in December to find out how to get involved with the winter show or in March to get involved with the spring show.  There is a place for everyone in The Deering Players!

Club involves and engages students in environmentally friendly activities - gardening, recycling drives, campus improvements, waste management all around Deering H.S. and also educating fellow students and staff about resource management and REDUCE-REUSE-RECYCLE principles.

Club involves and educates students about all film styles and genres through film viewings and discussions. Club attends film showings and local movie houses during the year to enjoy and experience various film genres, styles and noir.

Do you want to practice  speaking French confidently? Do you wish to overcome the fear of speaking in public and maybe a new language? Do you need to  enrich your vocabulary in French? 

Activities will include:

The LatinX Club is a group that promotes an understanding and celebration of Hispanic culture through school/community events and club activities led by DHS LatinX students.

The Interact Club’s goal is to create and develop two service projects per year to impact the local community and the school community at DHS, while building a broader sense of community and interaction between students and our neighborhood, city and state.

Oversee student and staff use of the renovated DHS Fitness & Weight Room after school and during free periods/LC. Oversee and direct intramural sports and/or student and student/staff tournaments and sports events.

Key Club International, also called Key Club, is an international service organization for high school students. As a DHS student-led organization, Key Club's goal is to encourage leadership through serving others and being active in the community.

March for Our Lives is a DHS student-led organization which leads demonstrations (and advocacy) in support of gun control legislation.

The DHS Math Team is a group of students studying and competing together in HS mathematics competitions. The members of the team are sometimes referred to as mathletes. Math teams are common throughout middle schools and high schools in North America. The DHS Match team competes in local, state and regional competitions monthly, called American Mathematics Competitions (AMC).

This club meets during Block 3 Learning Center in Room #112.  A lot of the work takes place during school events and games, especially any Deering High School sports related events.  The club works with the Athletic Department and DHS Social Media to to visually promote the happenings at DHS and also to promote school spirit.  This club typically uses digital photography, videography, sound and editing tools.

Model UN is an experiential learning activity for any student with an interest in knowing more about international issues. At the MeMUNC conference, each student is assigned to a country and committee of the UN. They assume the role of a delegate representing that nation to solve two major issues on the committee's agenda through negotiations with other delegates. Through research, debate, and resolution writing, students learn more about the world while developing a variety of useful skills. The club starts in February.

Deerings Music ensembles offer a place where students can collaborate with other musicians under the guidance of the director. Our chorus is open to all grades and any experience level. The Jazz/Concert band is open to students who preferably have playing experience already, but beginners can be included and learn. 
Hand bells will be offered in semester 2 after school. TBA depending on enrollment.

The MSA at Deering High School is a student-led group whose goal is to create and raise awareness and understanding of Islam on campus and in the community as well as fostering a sense of community and brotherhood/sisterhood among the DHS MSA students.

Natural Helpers are students selected by their peers for their gift at being good listeners and supporters. Natural Helpers receive training and support to in turn act as natural supports in their school community. They also host school-wide events at DHS to promote emotional wellness.
