Need Help with your FAFSA

Deering HS FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Night

*  Please come in for help completing the online FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov) form.

Who: All Deering High School Seniors and Parents

When: Tuesday, 10/24/17 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Where: Deering High School, Rooms 309, 310, 311, 312, 313, or 314

*  Please plan on arriving at 6:30 PM.  Being on time will enable all families to complete the FAFSA during the workshop. Resources are limited and those arriving late may have to wait until staff is available to assist them.


Important!

Both students and parents must secure an FSA ID each in advance of this event to be able to process their FAFSA.

        

Please go to fsaid.ed.gov to secure an FSA ID for both students and parents.

What to bring:

1. Your social security number.

2. Your driver’s license (if you have one).

3. Your 2016 W-2 Form and any other records of MONEY.

4. Your parents’ 2016 Federal INCOME return (if you are a dependent)

5. Your 2016 untaxed income records (i.e. Social Security, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Welfare, Veterans Benefits records)

6. Your current BANK statements

7. Your current business and investment information.

8. One of the documents below if you are not a U.S. citizen

9. YOUR Deering High School Chrome Book


***  You are eligible to participate if you have the following legal status and documentation:

  • U.S. Citizen

  • U.S. permanent resident, with a Permanent Resident Card (formerly known as an    Alien Registration Receipt Card or "Green Card")

  • Conditional permanent resident (I-551C)

  • Other eligible noncitizen with an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from the Department of Homeland Security showing any one of the following designations: "Refugee," "Asylum Granted," "Indefinite Parole," "Humanitarian Parole," or "Cuban-Haitian Entrant"

  • A citizen of the Republic of Palau (PW), the Republic of the Marshall Islands (MH), or the Federated States of Micronesia (FM).

Resources Available:

·    Staff from the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) will explain how to fill out the FAFSA properly.  Deering HS Guidance, Make It Happen Staff, and USM Staff will be on hand to provide support as well.


·    Parent Community Specialists will be available to interpret.
