The Deering Weekly Update

Deering's Outdoor Club picked the ONLY cloudy day in months to hike up Pleasant Mountain (Shawnee Peak) in Bridgton. Despite a little chill and drizzle, the hike was a great success. Pictured L to R: Deborah Umutori, advisors Sarah Shmitt and Jeff Borland, Alan Thach, and Samacha Sam. NEXT ADVENTURE? Snowshoeing, perhaps!

The Deering High School art department was awarded a $2,000 grant from the Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation of Portland, Maine. Leo Rabkin was an artist who worked and exhibited in New York City for sixty years. His wife, Dorothea, joined with Leo to create a landmark collection of American folk and outsider art. The grant is meant to support student artists by providing an increased art supply budget. Many thanks to the executive board and director of the Rabkin Foundation and in memory of Leo and Dorothea Rabkin for their generosity and passion for the arts!!
