Financial Aid & Scholarships

NAVIANCE

Many scholarships can be found on Naviance - and that's where we recommend that students start!

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP FORM

Each year, seniors need to fill out a LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP FORM in order to be considered for many of the local scholarships that are given out at Senior Last Assembly.  This year, that scholarship form will be available to seniors on Naviance from April 12 and will be due on WEDNESDAY, MAY 3.  Late submissions of this form will not be accepted.

RAISE.ME

We encourage all students to create accounts on raise.me, as you can start earning micro-scholarships to over 210 colleges.  Please click on this personal link to register, which will give you an extra $100 micro-scholarship to participating colleges.  Raise.me has proven to be a great tool to motivate students in high schools throughout the U.S., as the site immediately rewards students with scholarships for their hard work in and outside of high school. As an example:
● Get an A in a course ($100 - $1,000)
● Get a B in a course ($50 - $600)
● Participate in a school club or sport ($25 - $250)
● And much more!

Deering High School is among the first in the country to take advantage of this opportunity, which was launched with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and U.S. colleges.

Here are a couple of easy ways to support your students in using this unique tool:
1) Ensure that your student creates an account at https://www.raise.me/join/8943992249
2) Encourage your student to regularly add good grades, community service, extracurricular activities, and other achievements to his or her raise.me “Portfolio” to earn “Micro-Scholarships” from colleges.
3) Visit www.raise.me/parents for more information.

We hope using Raise.me will make your student’s path to college both more fun and affordable.

OTHER SCHOLARSHIP RESOURCES

Other national scholarship search websites that we recommend are:
FastWeb - Fastweb, a subsidiary of Monster, hosts more than 1.5 million scholarships that amount to more than $3.4 billion dollars. And it’s all so well organized! The search platform’s filters make it hard not to find exactly what you’re looking for. One minor drawback: You have to fill out a profile to get started. But the profile helps match you with scholarships most likely to suit your needs, and the sign-up process is relatively painless.

CollegeBoard Scholarship Search

As with all of the best resources, The College Board offers much more than an extensive list of scholarships. It also has test prep, articles and college search tools, among others. And its “scholarships, other financial aid and internships from more than 2,200 programs” totals nearly $6 billion. Added bonus: While you’re perusing the site you can prepare for the SAT!

UNIgo

Unigo has plenty to offer beyond just scholarships, including jobs, internships, college profiles and rankings, articles and a textbook store. When it comes to scholarships, the site offers both profile-based matching as well as easy-to-browse categories. Perhaps best of all is its user-friendly interface, which is somewhat reminiscent of a photo-sharing site. It makes finding scholarships simple. What’s more, the site values security and privacy of personal information – so, in other words, no spam!
