The Portland Public Schools is excited to welcome everyone back for the 2026-2027 school year. Here's a reminder about back-to-school dates:

• The first day for students in grades 1-12 will be Aug. 31.
• Pre-K and kindergarten students will start on Sept. 1.
• Teachers and other school-year staff return on Aug. 24.

Because Labor Day is late in 2026—it’s not until Monday, Sept. 7—students and staff are beginning school before that date. This is consistent with the timing of other districts in our area.
