Recently, Deering High School functional academics students experienced an unforgettable science lesson thanks to a collaboration between teachers Margaret Hoyt and Ashley Esmiller. Ashley E. Esmiller, MOT, OTR/L, is a Deering Occupational Therapist who also operates a small farm in Gorham. Ashley brought real bunnies from her farm into Margaret's environmental science class, which focused on the impact of species populations. The bunnies provided a vivid, hands-on illustration of abstract concepts. Students observed bunny life cycles firsthand and explored ecological ideas like carrying capacity. They even enjoyed some therapeutic "bunny snuggling time." This unique and engaging lesson brilliantly brought environmental science to life at Deering, making learning fun and tangible.
