The Focus and Drive of Jack Borland

Meet Jack Borland: three-sport athlete, aspiring biomedical engineer, and a student whose disciplined approach to life is genuinely remarkable. Jack doesn't just manage his packed schedule—he excels in it. A two-year starter at Goalie, he understands the intense pressure of the position. As he puts it, those nerve-wracking moments in goal are valuable because they "train you for other parts of life." This mindset is the engine behind his academic success, where the love he has for Math and Science is driving him toward a challenging future in Pre-Med or engineering.

Jack's favorite class, Anatomy with Miss York, speaks volumes about his focused curiosity; he loves learning about the human body and "dissecting things." Want another example of his impressive focus? During a quarantine, he taught himself to solve a Rubik’s Cube in 32 seconds, perfecting a technique purely through commitment.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Jack Borland as our Scholar Athlete of the Week. His story isn't just about balancing school and sports; it’s about choosing hard work over free time and channeling that effort into mastery, whether it’s in sports, the lab, or with a Rubik’s cube. He is a shining example of the caliber of student excellence at Deering High School.
