Strings of Tradition: Learning About "Los Festivales" Through Papel Picado
Our fantastic Reva Eiferman continues to immerse her students in rich learning experiences through her world language class series, "Los Festivales," exploring the vibrant traditions of Latin American countries. Pictured here, students are engaging hands-on with papel picado, a traditional Mexican folk art. This intricate craft involves folding and cutting or punching elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper. These delicate, colorful banners are then strung together, often spanning streets or decorating altars and homes. Seeing papel picado strung up is a universal sign across many Latin American cultures that a celebration or festival is underway, and our students did a wonderful job capturing its festive spirit!
