The Rotary Club of Portland, Maine, honored Jael Mowa, an extraordinary student from Deering High, with the Spirit of Youth Scholarship. Jael, accompanied by her guidance counselor, Colleen Demers, shared her impressive achievements at our meeting. Fluent in four languages, a varsity track and field athlete, a dedicated student leader and volunteer, a Sunday school teacher, and a volunteer with the League of Women Voters, she also serves as a volunteer interpreter and English teacher. President Patty announced that Jael has selected the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project as her designated charity. We are incredibly proud of Jael Mowa and her embodiment of school spirit, academic excellence, and outstanding community service.
