Greek Isles in Maine: The Deering Players’ Spectacular Mamma Mia! Run

If you have ever had the opportunity to see a theatrical performance by The Deering Players in the historic Clinton W. Graffam Auditorium, you know you have experienced something truly special. This wasn't just a school play; it was a total transformation of the stage that left the audience shouting "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" more.

The Deering Players are a collection of the most devoted artists on campus. Their recent production of Mamma Mia! proved that their countless hours of staying after school—perfecting choreography, harmonizing, memorizing lines, and mastering technical cues—was truly out of this world. They didn’t just perform; they brought a Mediterranean sun to Portland and brought the audience to their feet.

The energy in the Graffam Auditorium was electric. Here is what made the show a "Super Trouper" success:

Vocals & Choreography: The practice of song and dance was evident in every beat. From high-energy ensemble numbers to heart-wrenching solos, the cast handled the ABBA songbook with professional grace.

Technical Mastery: The stage creation, lighting, and sound were seamless. The "behind-the-scenes" magic transported us straight to a Greek island, proving that the tech crew is the backbone of this company.

Crowd Reaction: Three performances simply were not enough. The community demand was so high that it felt like the whole city was saying, "Honey, Honey," we need an encore!

As the curtain falls on this production, we find ourselves in a "Slipping Through My Fingers" moment. Many of our lead actors and crew members are seniors. Their expertise, leadership, and genuine care for the theatrical arts have shaped the Deering Players into what they are today. While it is bittersweet to watch their final year on this stage, their legacy is undeniable.

However, the future looks just as bright. We are equally enthusiastic and pleased to see our newer students stepping up, taking on massive responsibilities, and shining both in the spotlight and behind the scenes. The torch is being passed to a new generation of "Dancing Queens" (and Kings!).
