In the beginning of November, nineteen extraordinary Deering students exhibited courage by immersing themselves in the rigorous world of state governance at the Maine Youth in Government conference in Augusta, the state capital of Maine.

This conference is more than just a simulation; it's a vital training ground for the next generation of engaged citizens and leaders. Our students didn't just attend—they seized the opportunity to participate in virtually every capacity, demonstrating incredible bravery by stepping into high-pressure roles and advocating for their beliefs.

Our Rams served as:

• Representatives and Senators
• Committee Chairs
• Members of the Media
• Members of the Governor's Cabinet
• Lobbyists
• And even the Youth Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Court!

In these roles, our students faced the challenge of passing both serious and silly bills, learning firsthand the complexity and excitement of the legislative process. They gained invaluable knowledge about the intricacies of the Maine government and forged meaningful connections with peers from across the entire state.

The willingness of these students to engage so deeply with our civic structure is not just impressive—it is absolutely vital to the health and future of our community. These young leaders, who bravely put themselves forward to learn, debate, and advocate, are the ones who will shape our tomorrow. Their commitment gives us profound hope and a clear picture of the thoughtful, engaged, and courageous citizens they are becoming.
