Deering High School Students Dive into the "Shark Tank"

Ms. Mary Nance, a social studies teacher at Deering High School, recently transformed her classroom into a thrilling re-enactment of the popular TV show "Shark Tank."  Students were challenged to try out their entrepreneurial skills by developing innovative products and crafting compelling business proposals, complete with slideshows and marketing plans. To add to the excitement, teachers and administrators stepped into the roles of the formidable "sharks," grilling students with tough questions about production costs, market viability, and overall feasibility. The goal of this immersive experience was to provide students with a fun and engaging project and at the same time gaining skills like collaboration, professionalism, and time management.

The results of the "Shark Tank" simulation were outstanding!  Every student team received an offer from at least one "shark," and several presentations even sparked bidding wars!  The innovative products pitched included Gel+ (a revolutionary hair product), Loiter Guard (a bathroom timer to prevent excessive lingering), The Tech Time-Out (a secure "jail" for mobile phones), and Super Socks (multi-purpose socks designed for ultimate comfort and functionality). This exciting activity proved to be a resounding success, allowing students to explore the challenges and rewards of entrepreneurship in a dynamic, hands-on environment.
