Deering High School teacher Jeff Borland and his former student Aidan Blum Levine saw a need for better communication between teachers and families in multilingual school districts. Their solution? ReachMyTeach, a website that translates school communications into over 200 languages, making it easier for teachers to connect with parents who don't speak English. Since its creation in 2021, ReachMyTeach has become an essential tool in Portland schools and beyond, demonstrating the power of technology to bridge language barriers and foster inclusivity in education.
Borland, with the help of Blum Levine, coded the first version of the site, and it quickly gained traction in Deering High School. After receiving an investment, Borland took time off to further develop the program with Blum Levine. Now led bya CEO Helen Cohen, a former Deering High School teacher, ReachMyTeach continues to expand, adding features like live interpreters and refined translations.
