Deering Debate Delivers: Success, Growth, and the Call for Community Support

On behalf of everyone at Deering, we want to extend a massive congratulations to our Speech and Debate Team for their outstanding performance at the Forensicsgiving Tournament!

On November 22, Deering High School's Speech and Debate Team competed at the Forensicsgiving Tournament at York High School. Novice Elyse Winnikka competing in Oratory Declamation. Returning members Paisley Haskell and Clementine Enright competed in Varsity Public Forum Debate and Noah Rasheed and Ellis Wood competed in Congressional Debate.

Novice Elyse finished in 4th place at her very first tournament! The pair of Paisley & Clementine finished an impressive third place in Varsity Public Forum Debate! Noah ranked 1st in Congressional Debate and both Noah and Ellis collectively ranked 1st in the category of Congressional Debate! They may have been a small group, but they were mighty!

We are actively seeking volunteers to help judge tournaments! Judges are paid for their time! If you are interested in being a volunteer judge with the Deering Debate Team, please reach out to Head Coach Bilal (husseb@portlandschools.org).
