What a beautiful example of community, connection, and inclusion right in the school kitchen! Ms. Leffler’s ninth-grade AP Human Geography classes recently wrapped up their month-long food unit by collaborating with the fantastic students and staff in the FLS and FA programs for an incredible culinary expedition. Guided by the wonderful teamwork of Ms. Kristin Leffler, Ms. Karissa Chambers, Ms. Ashley Esmiller, and Ms. Margaret Hoyt, and students spent the first two days working side by side to whip up delicious empanadas, a cilantro lime salad with pickled vegetables, and a variety of flavorful dips. The week culminated in a high-energy "Chopped" style cooking challenge where teams had to put their creativity and kitchen skills to the test, collaborating to design unique desserts featuring three mystery ingredients: corn, Pringles, and lemon or lime. While the students successfully practiced basic cooking techniques and explored complex food systems, the absolute best part of the experience went far beyond the recipes. The real highlight happened in the shared laughter and new connections made across programs, beautifully highlighted when a student proudly shared that they had made a new friend.
