A Night of Achievement: Honoring the National Honor Society Inductees and Junior Award Recipients

Deering High School is preparing to host the 2026 Convocation of the National Honor Society and Junior Awards Night, a distinguished evening celebrating the academic and personal achievements of its students. The ceremony will take place this Thursday evening, April 16, 2026, at 6:00 PM within the Clinton W. Graffam Auditorium on campus. This formal event serves as a public recognition of students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their studies and their school community.

The program will feature several student speakers who will offer reflections on the foundational values of the National Honor Society. Sadaf (Ava) Habibzai will address the importance of scholarship, Ivayla Varbanova will discuss leadership, Laura Callaghan will speak on character, and Rocco Ciccomancini will conclude with remarks on service. During the proceedings, a group of new members will be formally inducted into the William E. Wing Chapter of the National Honor Society, with the official pledge of the society led by member Toby Romano.

A notable highlight of the ceremony includes the presentation of Book Awards to a select group of juniors from an array of prestigious institutions, including Bowdoin College, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, and Yale University. While students and families have been notified of their award designation, the evening holds a significant reveal; along with the commemorative book gift, several students will also discover they have been awarded sizable scholarships to these historic institutions.

Families previously received distinct letters of commendation for these separate honors, making this a particularly significant night for those students being recognized for both their induction and their academic book award.

Assistant Principal Carlie Frederick, along with National Honor Society co-advisors Dr. Talya Davis and Carina Spiro, invite students, staff, families, and the wider community to share in this celebratory occasion. A light reception will follow the formal program, providing an opportunity for guests to gather and honor the accomplishments of the students.
