Generations Reunite! Deering High School Celebrates 150 Years

Deering High School's 150th-anniversary celebration on Saturday was a resounding success!  The day drew a crowd of enthusiastic alumni back to their alma mater.  We were honored by the presence of Maine House Representative Samuel Lewis Zager, Portland Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ryan Scallon, and our own principal, Dr. Jake Giessman.

Dozens of alumni reminisced about their Deering days, sharing stories of academic triumphs and youthful mischief.  The media club, led by students DJ Hooks Wayman and Jackson Forrest, interviewed alumni who witnessed key historical events (a documentary film is in the works!).  Yearbooks and sports memorabilia filled the library and gymnasium, respectively, while Mr. Patrick Williams' Film Club showcased a student-made documentary that entertained the alumni.  Dr. Giessman and Dr. Scallon addressed the crowd in the auditorium, and Representative Zager presented a special recognition to Deering High School and its Senior Class President, Natalie Santiago.

One alumna proudly shared that three generations of her family have graduated from Deering!  This historic gathering culminated in a group photo on the school's front steps, capturing alumni, staff, students, the Alumni Network, the Superintendent, and Representative Zager. This momentous occasion truly cemented Deering's rich 150-year legacy and celebrated the positive impact the school has had on generations of "Ramilies."

Thanks to meticulous planning by Ms. Heather Sawyer and Mr. Ryan Hutchins (former Deering students)
