On May 17th, Maine Medical Center, a world-renowned teaching hospital with locations throughout Maine, hosted students from Deering High School's Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) program. The ELO program provides career exploration activities like job shadows, field trips, and guest speakers.
This special day offered a unique opportunity for students interested in the medical field. The hospital's education wing features a realistic simulation room complete with a hospital bed, monitors, and mannequins that can simulate various medical conditions.
Deering students partnered one-on-one with Maine Medical Center college students, gaining firsthand experience in tasks like suturing, checking vital signs, and simulating joint hospital rounds, and learning about different medical careers.
This interactive program allowed students to put their classroom knowledge into action and explore potential medical professions before making college or career choices.
Both Deering High School and the ELO program extend their thanks to Maine Medical Center for this valuable learning experience.
