GUIDANCE UPDATES
- It’s not too late for Seniors to make plans for the fall if they haven’t already. Please encourage your students to reach out to their counselor if their plans have changed or if they need some help with the next step.
- Juniors were invited to sessions with counselors on planning for life after high school, building a college list, writing essays and supplements, and financial aid. If they did not attend and have questions, please direct them to us; we’ll be working with them until the last day of school to make sure they have what they need over the summer. Be on the lookout for information about our summer drop in days for rising seniors who want some help with their applications, resumes, plans, etc. We’ll send a message to families with dates and times soon!
- Freshmen and Sophomores should remember that summer is a great time to do some volunteer work in the community, find work experience to earn money and build workplace skills, tag along when older siblings visit colleges, and enjoy the sunshine (it will come out eventually!). Our ELO coordinator, Jane Evans, is a great resource for finding summer programs and experiences, and counselors can help, too!
- 2025-2026 Student Schedules will be sent via Reach My Teach to high school students and their parents/guardians the week of August 4. Student passwords will be reset on August 28.
SUMMER SCHOOL
Deering High School will be hosting credit recovery for the following courses: Algebra 1, Environmental Science, Biology, English (all grades), and PE/Health. To participate students who did not pass their class will need to earn at least a 50% for a final grade. Classes will begin on 6/23 and run through 7/3 (with 7/7-7/10 available for students who need extra time or have to make up a missed class), Monday through Thursday from 9 to 12. Breakfast and lunch will be available! Shawn Kennedy will be sending emails via ReachMyTeach to students meeting the criteria to sign up. Please email him with any questions at kennes@portlandschools.org.
