Making Every Minute Count: The Learning Center Reset

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we look ahead to next school year, we are committed to refining our master schedule to ensure every student receives the highest quality of support. To achieve this, we are implementing a Learning Center (LC) Reset beginning Monday April 27th.

The goal of this reset is to maximize instructional minutes and gather meaningful data on how our current Learning Center impacts student success. Please remember that the Learning Center is a formal part of your student’s instructional day, and the following guidelines will be in effect to ensure a productive environment for everyone.

Learning Center Expectations
To help you and your student navigate these updates, here is a quick guide to our daily procedures:

-Where to Go: If a student is not specifically booked by a subject teacher for targeted support, they must report to their Advisory teacher every day.
-Club Meetings: If a student is attending a club during LC, the club sponsor is responsible for booking them. However, academic classes always take priority over clubs. If a student is booked for both, they must attend their academic session.
-Attendance & Check-outs: Students must remain in their assigned, booked location until the end of the period at 2:50 PM.
-Accountability: Attendance is mandatory. If a student skips LC, the student will be assigned lunch detention.

Exceptions: Seniors do still have Senior Privilege and are exempt from attending LC unless they are booked with a teacher for targeted support.

Student Advocacy: Students are encouraged to advocate for themselves if they believe a mistake has been made regarding attendance and lunch detention. For instance, if a student is marked absent and assigned lunch detention due to a communication error while they were present in the building, they should speak directly with an administrator. Please reinforce to your student that the Learning Center expectations are designed for support, not punishment, and self advocacy is a vital skill.

Why This Matters
By tightening these procedures, we can better track the effectiveness of our interventions and ensure that students are in the right place at the right time to get the help they need. We want to make sure every minute of the school day counts toward your student's growth and academic achievement.
We appreciate your continued partnership in making our school a focused and effective learning environment.

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please feel free to reach out to the main office.

Sincerely,
The Deering Administration
